How to Install a Chain Link Fence
Installing a chain link fence is a practical way to secure your property. Follow these steps for a successful installation:
Plan and Measure – Determine the fence layout and mark the post locations using stakes and string. Ensure proper spacing (typically 6-10 feet between posts).
Dig Post Holes – Use a post-hole digger to create holes for the terminal (corner/end) and line posts. Terminal posts require deeper holes (about 30 inches) for stability, while line posts can be shallower (24 inches).
Set Posts in Concrete – Place the posts in the holes, ensuring they are plumb (vertically straight). Fill the holes with concrete and let it cure for at least 24 hours.
Attach Fittings – Install tension bands, caps, and rails on terminal posts. For gates, add hinge and latch hardware.
Unroll and Secure the Mesh – Stretch the chain link fabric between terminal posts, using a tension bar and wire to pull it tight. Secure the mesh to line posts with fence ties.
Install the Gate – Hang the gate, ensuring it swings smoothly and latches securely.
With proper tools and patience, a chain link fence can be installed efficiently for long-lasting durability.
